The court of Additional Sessions Judge I Ehsanullah Khan has sentenced hardcore Naxalite Munna Vishwakarma with a reward of Rs 10 lakh and Ajit Kol, a Naxalite with a reward of Rs 50 thousand, to life imprisonment. A hearing was held on Tuesday in the case of recovery of banned weapons from both of them.

A fine of Rs 25-25 thousand has also been imposed on both the Naxalites. In case of non-payment of fine, he will have to undergo additional imprisonment of two years. Both the Naxalites were caught in 2012 during a two-hour long police-Naxalite encounter in the Kanch-Kanhaura forest under the leadership of the then SP Subhash Chandra Dubey.

According to the prosecution, on 23/24 May 2012, information was received that movement of some Naxalite criminals had been seen in the forest of Kanch Kanhaura. Who are planning to commit some serious crime. Members of Naxalite organizations from other provinces are meeting with him. On receiving the information, when the police team armed with weapons moved towards Kanch forest, some people were seen sitting at some distance with weapons.

When the SP asked the Naxalites to surrender, the Naxalites opened indiscriminate fire on the police force. After a police encounter that lasted for about two hours, the firing from the Naxalites stopped. Later two Naxalites were caught by the police. The remaining Naxalites managed to escape.
